CHOSEN ADVERTS

THE TWO ADVERTS FOR MY MAGAZINE:

WHY ARE THESE ADVERTS APPROPRIATE?

My music magazine genre is EDM, meaning my demographic will be people interested in this music genre and festivals from the genZ and millennial generations. These two adverts are for two music festivals that mainly feature EDM music. They are in the UK which is where my magazine is solely based; this makes it even more appealing to my target audience. In the creamfields festival advert, four artists I have referenced in my magazine are advertised in this: david guetta, camelphat, fatboy slim and calvin harris. This highlights my magazine being realistic and continues to emphasise the EDM genre through my magazine. These advertisers will pay me to put these adverts in my magazine because they slot perfectly into the style and subject of my magazine, my magazine speaks about festivals/raves so this will create an appropriate environment for these adverts to be in.

2ND DRAFT OF DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

MY SECOND DRAFT OF DPS:

WHAT’S NEW:

  • The background colour is now black
  • I changed the colours of the subheadings in my article to match the theme and incorporate the colour palettes from the contents page and front cover
  • I edited the spacing of my model and her text border so it doesn’t invade the article text
  • I made sure my page numbers were in line
  • I changed the font of the hook and this fits the theme more and ties in to the fonts all over the DPS
  • I took the borders of the disco balls behind the ‘STEPS TO STARDOM’ and respaced so that they all line up well and uniform
  • I also changed the font of the quote to tie everything together

WHAT’S NEXT:

  • There is a small gap in the neon border of my model so I need to fill this in
  • Make sure all the ‘AMBZ’ border is evenly spaced away from the neon border, they need to curve to the shape of the image so maybe make the slightly smaller too

2ND DRAFT OF CONTENTS PAGE

MY SECOND DRAFT OF CONTENTS PAGE:

WHAT’S NEW:

  • I restarted my contents page from scratch because before I don’t think it blended and flowed well, I used some new parts as well as copy and pasting old parts from my first draft over
  • The background is now black
  • The ‘CONTENTS’ banner is inverted
  • I have added neon lines around the photos to increase the EDM vibe and show photoshop skills
  • I have rotated my photos to blend into the banner seamlessly
  • I have moved my pug and added the effect ‘outer glow’ which makes it more noticeable
  • I have added my photo of a disco ball around the page to carry on the theme from my DPS
  • I have changed the font of ‘DJ EV’ to be more in-keeping with my theme and this resembles the original fonts used in rave posters
  • I have changed the colours of page numbers to include purple too
  • The caption lines and page numbers have been re-spaced to fill out the entire page more effectively
  • I have featured the quote from DJ KHALED more effectively
  • I have put a slight blur effect on my photos to carry on the EDM disco/rave style and show some more photoshop skills

WHAT’S NEXT:

  • I need to make sure my page numbers and captions are spaced evenly from the edge of the page
  • I might experiment with giving some of the disco balls a coloured border
  • I need to add a page number onto the left corner
  • I also need to very slightly move some of the disco balls to ensure they aren’t touching any of the text or photos

SECOND DRAFT OF THE FRONT COVER

MY SECOND DRAFT OF FRONT COVER:

  • I have added a neon outline to the image
  • I have made the overall image much brighter and more vibrant

  • The background is now fully black
  • I have morphed together both my ‘sequin’ and ‘neon’ drafts to make one, better magazine cover

WHAT’S NEXT:

  • I need to play around with font sizes and heights in my byline
  • I could add outer glow to my barcode
  • I need to check my coverlines are evenly spaced
  • Maybe add some disco balls?

1ST DRAFT OF THE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

MY FIRST DRAFT:

WHAT I LIKE:

  • I really like the neon line and continuous name around my model I, I think it shows good photoshop skills and reflects the EDM genre well
  • I like the disco balls incorporated, these are based off of the disco vibe of original raves and links back to where EDM began
  • I think the graffiti like, urban fonts- they all work well and highlight the modern vibe of the magazine

WHAT I NEED TO DO:

  • I might change the background colour to black so all the colours stand out and pop, this would also suit the rave EDM culture
  • I need to make sure spacing is even and correct especially on the quote
  • Clean up the disco ball background of ‘STEPS TO STARDOM’ so there are no borders
  • Brighten up the sunglasses to ensure the rhinestones are clearly visible
  • Play around with the page number size, whether they should be bigger or smaller

THIRD SHOOT CONTACT SHEETS

CONTACT SHEETS:

REFLECTION:

Above I have displayed my contact sheets from my third shoot, I used boys to model in this shoot to add some differentiation to my magazine as everyone so far has been a female. I created an EDM appropriate Mise En Scene with the neon gel camera covers, disco lights, disco balls and casual clothing on a dark background. This was successful. I took photos in different locations, using props to my advantage, I found some sound DJ decks and got my model to pose with this as well as other things like the disco ball. I directed my model to stand in different positions to create the exact image I had in my vision, this worked very well. I used the DSLR camera well apart from there were some mishaps with the flash connecting, this didn’t effect the photoshoot too much luckily. Most if not all of my images were clear.

MY 5 FAVOURITE PHOTOS:

These are my favourite photos because I think they convey the EDM club scene most accurately. There are a range of colours used in backgrounds as well as props (disco ball, sunglasses, hat, DJ decks) that embellish the photos effectively and raise the standard. I can use these photos for both my sequin themed magazine and my neon themed magazine meaning they are versatile.

MY FIRST DRAFT ARTICLE:

MY MP3 RECORDING:

When I was reading my article and creating this recording, I could hear parts that didn’t flow correctly and needed to be changed. This recording allowed me to view my article from the audience’s perspective and I could change small phrasing, punctuation and language errors to make my article as good as it can be.

FINAL REDRAFT OF MY ARTICLE, AFTER TEACHER ASSESSMENT:

STEPS TO STARDOM-WITH AMBZ

Get personal with new EDM star AMBZ to discover more about her rise to fame

Learn about AMBZ’s life from her childhood to the present day; featuring some direct questions and answers for you to get even closer. Read about the 7 main milestones on her journey to fame.

When she first found her love for music …

Amber, who goes by the stage name “AMBZ”,  was 6 years old when her parents took her to a singing class and all the teachers there said they knew she would become a star; she had that quality that was rare to find and couldn’t be taught. Amber was a performer from a very young age and this small singing passion morphed into a love for DJing when she was first learning how to use DJ decks at the age of 9. Her music was quickly blossoming and AMBZ knew as soon as she finished high school that she had to pursue this talent, and this would be her life forever.

When she was DJing at her first job in a club from 16 …

Amber decided to do a DJing course when she left school at 16, her music had already spread about her hometown in Brighton meaning her fanbase was starting to grow. A large, VIP nightclub named ‘Star Club’ offered a job to Amber of DJing every Friday and Saturday night and as a result,  AMBZ’s name was the talk of the town and started to bring in new customers. Her work schedule increased and she was playing 5 out of 7 nights a week in a flash; AMBZ was becoming something. In the club for two hours a night she could play her own EDM songs that she had produced and this worked very effectively for her publicity.

When AMBZ was discovered by a producer and got signed by a record deal …

Whilst Amber was working at ‘Star Club’ there were often VIP nights where producers in the music industry would attend the club. One in particular took a liking to Amber’s music style and sheer passion when stopping by on a tour for another client- this record label being Rough Trade (the number one record label in the UK). Rough Trade’s A & R man, Shelby Thomas, gave AMBZ their card and that was it! From that moment forward AMBZ has been able to build a close relationship with her record label and become the star everyone knew she would be. “I wouldn’t have wanted to be on this journey with anyone else,” Amber said “They want the best for me and I trust they can get me into the world I dreamed about since I was young!”

When her first song played on the radio …

“My first single in 2019, “Goldrun”, was played on the radio on March 6th and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, it was amazing”- was how AMBZ described the event.  She called her family crying with joy and she said this was the moment it set in that she had really done it. She had made her wishes come true through all the hard work put in over the years. Amber carried on hearing her song all week long and she was determined to make more music for her growing fan base.

When AMBZ was put number 1 on BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2021…

Amber was listed in the number one spot for BBC upcoming artists in 2020, this was huge! She had reached such a high point and never wanted to come down from this feeling of constant euphoria. AMBZ later played in BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend along with other world known EDM artists like Calvin Harris and Camelphat. AMBZ even got to meet them and speak in depth about their rise to fame and love for their passion of DJing and performing.

When four of AMBZ’s songs from her new album made it to the top 20 in world charts on Itunes …

On June 1st 2021 AMBZ released an album called “Here We Are” and four out of the nine songs on it made the top 20 world charts. This is an incredible achievement and somewhat unheard of in the music industry; especially for EDM artists. After this amazing moment, Amber’s instagram following increased to 19 million followers from 11 million, it really got her noticed to a larger audience and radios, podcasts and talk shows were chatting ‘AMBZ’ all over the globe.

When she did her first music tour, DJing in clubs all over the world …

On Amber’s first world tour she stopped off in 25 countries; playing at two venues in each; the tour lasted for 3 months and Amber travelled with her two best friends along the way. “It was so manic and sometimes stressful when it came to technical difficulties at shows and catching flights so regularly; but it was the best experience of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I am hoping to go on another tour next year when I put out my next album and I’m just praying every day that it’ll get the same if not more love from my fans!” She proceeded to say how much she loved all the support from her fans and finds it so weird to be referred to as a celebrity; as it’s all gone so quickly. AMBZ also gave a special mention to her friends and family who have been by her side every step of the way, she claims to owe everything she has to them…
