It has been a long journey, from learning all of the conventions in a magazine as well as doing photoshoots with a DSLR camera. We did practical dressing up in costumes with a specific genre to follow that has been picked in a hat randomly. Then doing a lot of research into my specific target audience to see what they would look for and like in a magazine which is what I would add in mine. Also learning a lot about the media production process such as script writing, storyboard creation, voice recording as well as editing which made me think that I have fulfilled with the brief making a double page spread as well a front cover followed by a contents page for my magazine. All of my images being original and having a maximum of 4 images produced by me. In the making of my magazine, I have faced some problems which made me resolve them in my next draft. These include not making my font stand taller which meant that it did not stand out as much as it could as well as to justifying or wrapping my text around my model which I have amended and looks a lot better.
So I had to do another one, the advice I would give myself is to make sure my layout of all of my captions as well as text all flow nicely and neatly. Also maybe experimenting with different fonts throughout to make it look more interesting to look at.
When designing these different layouts, I needed to focus on the different layouts that would stand out to my target audience. For the first one, “GO HARD OR GO HOME” I chose Impact font for it as I think it has the genre of rock engraved in it. It is not as nice looking when looking at it as it is bold and has a aggressive looking to it which suggests the genre of rock being aggressive and heavy.
The second typeface being crossed out to give a more of a “rebellious” look to it. I was originally going to go for a guitar shaped font however I think that it looks good with it being crossed out. So by using the serif looking font, as well as being near the bottom left of the page it would grab enough attention.
For the third font, I wanted to try to get it looking as if it was handwritten by himself. Also could show his emotions when looking at it as if he was sad writing it.
The final typeface, I wanted it to be a lot more exited when looking at it, so I have added bright colours so it would stand out to my audience and made “NEW” and “2024” big and in caps to drag immediate attention to the audience.
When designing my first draft of my double page spread, I have added the main conventions such as the headline, standfirst, drop capital, columns. However for my 2nd draft, I am going to try to include other conventions such as line spacing, line numbers and other conventions such as by-line and others to try to engage my target audience a lot more.
What I like:
My star image is looking at the text
The image on the second page fits well and looks neat
Well laid out
What I need to do:
Include page numbers
Add line spacings
Drag the black box behind the text on the second page down more to make it more neat
After I have done this, I wanted to try to go through it and possibly add extras to it to make it sound better. I did this by writing it again with the improvements:
Byline:
Alex Queripel
Headline:
Jake N Brings Back The Energy To The Stage
Standfirst:
Introducing the Rock guitarist Jake N bringing back the extreme energy to the audience. Also presenting his new album named “PLUG’D IN” making the crowd go wild again. Jake has attended many different performances in his life and all of them being energetic and successful.
Jake N is in today to talk about his return to bring back the energy to the stage again. As he left for a few months after he states that he is having problems with life at the moment, let’s see what he has to say…..
Background – Context:
Jake N has wanted some “time away from music” as he is having some problems in his life in the past few months. Now returning and preforming again.
Discussion Q&A:
Q- How did you feel when you had to take time away from music?
A – I have made the hard decision to take some time away from music which is my passion which I am sure my fans would not like but it was for the best. Obviously devastated that I had to do this and could imagine I might have lost a couple of my fans in that time, but I am sure that with my new song coming out. Hopefully attracting more fans to interact with my songs.
Q- What feelings do you get when performing on stage?
A- When I perform on stage, the amount of adrenaline I get is so surreal, fans screaming my name feels like I am dreaming! This is one of the many feelings that I only receive on stage than in everyday life which I am so blessed to experience that feeling.
Q- So how has music affected your life and what routine do you follow?
A- Music has always been my passion ever since I was little, I remember listening to music with my dad in the morning (ACDC in specific) whilst I was eating my breakfast. So nowadays, it feels normal, like it is embedded into my brain. Every single Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday I go down to the studio to see my good friend Mark to talk about all of the possible new songs to release in the future and sometimes even record new songs. Music means a lot to me, I can’t express it enough!
Q- If you don’t mind me asking, why did you take time away from music?
A- So my dad was rushed to the hospital after having a lump in his chest which we might thought have been cancerous. So I went to the hospital with him and my family to support and comfort him for a couple of months. With the amazing team of people there, he fully recovered which has led to me returning.
Prediction – Future:
Jake N has a big future ahead of him, making himself bigger and better than he already is. Performing at many different shows to satisfy his audience and gain more fans. Also doing meet and greets at specific locations around the world so he has a chance to see his fans in person instead of just on stage.
Conclusion:
“I hope that I make it in life with loads of following on social media, my target being to beat ACDC in popularity as they have always been my rival to beat. I am going to try my best and have ACDC looking up at me and wanting to compete with me, not the other way around!”
After this, I have done a mp3 recording of my voice to see if if it all flows well and makes sense. Shown below is the recording:
Then when I heard it again, I have made some improvements to it to make it sound better:

Then after making more amendments, this is my final draft:

Jake N has a big future ahead of him, making himself bigger and better than he already is. Performing at many different concerts, festivals and even the odd impromptu pub gig he is on an upward trajectory. Jake is also renowned for doing meet and greets at specific locations around the world so he has a chance to see his fans in person instead of just on stage. And if you, a loyal reader of Underground magazine would like the chance to meet Jake in person, then next month’s edition will include a competition with the top prize of doing just this.
I have taken a variety of pictures of a band playing as well as me performing with my band on stage. The different colours of lights used help drag attention as they would want to know who is playing and how good they sound so I have included photos that I think that would be good to include in my magazine. So I went to a show to capture photos I believe would be suitable to include:
So overall, I think that the photos I have taken would attract my target audience to want to read more about my magazine. Taking these photos, I have made sure to include not only my model but photos that my model does (such as performing live performances) so it gives the audience another perspective to look at it from. So the audience gets an idea of what sort of energy is going on at the event and also how everyone else reacts to my model.
For this shoot, I have captured some images of my band performing and also some photos of my tutors at my music school performing live on stage. One of my star images being one of the tutors at my music school on stage with his electric guitar. People that may be interested in rock music might gain entertainment when reading and looking at the image of him playing a solo in front of the crowd. When choosing the photos I am going to upload, I have to think about other peoples personal identity as some people might not like this genre and might keep on walking. Another factor to think about being the social interaction that this may cause to the audience who are socially interacting with one another of their interests for this genre. This image has to capture attention (AIDA) to the audience as this might possibly be the cause for buying this magazine. When the audience first look at the photo, it could also make them think about possible stories of what it could be like if they were to be interested in this genre (this leading to more people interested in the magazine). In this process, I have to also think about the possible captions that will engage the audience to make it understandable for the audience to remember.
