SHOOT 1 REFLECTION

OVERALL REFLECTION:

Our first shoot was all for performance rather than narrative, we used the afternoon to film in the white studio, we chose this over the black studio because we knew our model (Lily Wyatt Nicolle) would have one outfit with black clothing. Due to our intricate planning and careful costuming to connote the right mise en scene, we finished on time and we were very pleased with all the footage we shot.

PHOTOS FROM THE DAY OF FILMING:

WHAT WENT WELL:

  • We played the song whenever filming so lip-syncing was effective and in time, making the editing and post production stages easier.
  • We framed our model in the middle of the camera, this allows us to play around with spacing during editing stages and also creates a nice shadow in the backdrop.
  • We forward planned with the production meeting agenda so costume and lighting was utilised to build up the right mise en scene, as well as having all the correct professional equipment.
  • Our model was confident so the acting and star image looks authentic and eye-catching.
  • Niamh and I work well as a team so directing was cohesive, this lead to us both being happy with outcomes and the shoot was definitely positive and constructive.
  • The variety of shots we took utilise different movements, angles and lighting, meaning we can edit to the beat in post production stages to keep the video interesting and engaging.

WHAT TO IMPROVE:

  • Ensure all shots are in focus and aren’t blurry, this can cause issues in post production stages.
  • Bring spare batteries for the lights because one kept dying during filming.
  • We could have used dollys or pans when filming for more variety of shot – we are using these in the narrative shoot though.
  • We could have experimented with a projector during filming to save time in post production and editing stages.
  • Change up the framing more to the side of the camera etc.
  • We will need to colour correct our videos to make them more professional.
