Advert – Drawn Mockup

In order to plan our own advert for our digipak we had to produce a design (by hand) of what we want our advert to look like. We decided to include the front cover of our digipak in the design of the advert.

Drawn Mockup:

Analysis:

It was relatively simple to think of a design as it was conventional to use the front cover of the digipak, all we need to decide on now is the font we will use for the text at the bottom of the advert and make sure it is conventional to the electronic genre.

Digipak Shoot – Risk Assessment

Before we could start our digipak shoot we had to assess the risks associated with our shoot. Similar to the music video risk assessment, we had to consider the risks and how we would address them.

Risk Assessment:

Analysis:

While I can see the general benefits of using a risk assessment. I feel that it was not necessary for us to have created one for our digipak shoot. The shoot only took about 2 minutes and was done in the relative safety of our A2 Media classroom.

Digipak Production Meeting Agenda

Digipak Production Meeting Agenda:

We created a production meeting agenda for our digipak shoot.

Overview:

Our digipak is fairly unique in that it will be created almost entirely with the use of Photoshop. Bearing this in mind, I feel as if it was not a useful allocation of time to create a Production Meeting Agenda for our digipak as we only took one photo in total. The photo shoot comprised only of some headphones and a white background. The shoot only took about a minute, we will be adding effects to the image later on with the use of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

Digipak – Digital Mock Up – Feedback

Digipak Digital Mock Up:

After proceeding with creating our first draft of our digipak, we sought out collecting feedback for our digital mock up, which we printed out and inserted into a case. We realised immediately that our digital mock up was lacking any specific features that could be associated with our group. This was partially intentional in that we were mainly experimenting with general look of our digipak. The most important aspects were the colour and the arrangement of images. I interview 2 students, Ryan and Sebastian.

Feedback – Ryan:

Feedback – Sebastian:

Positives:

  • Good use of colour on the inside of the digipak
  • The use of colour in general

Suggestions

  • Own meta-narrative
  • Include more graphics

Notes and Analysis:

One note to include would be that we knew our digital mock up was not going to be that representative of our ideas. This is because our idea is centred totally around the use of an image which at the moment, does not exist. Our design is centred around several images that will be created manually by my group and I, with the use of Adobe Illustrator. Taking this into consideration, it was difficult to gain any specific feedback for our digital mock up. Instead we just reaffirmed our idea to incorporate a vast range of colour in our digipak draft 1.

Digipak – Digital Mock Up

Digital Mock Up:

As a precursor to the first draft of our digipak, we browsed the internet to find images that are similar to our initial design ideas. We then compiled those images into a mock up digipak, in the hopes to gain an idea as to how are design may look in a case.

Below are the images we found, put into a CD case.

Inside Left and Right Cover:

Analysis:

The images we found largely resemble how we want our digipak to look, for our first draft of our digipak we will also add the titles of our own tracks, and the title of the album and our artist. What was key for this exercise was to have a very colourful and attractive basis for our design. The creation process of the digital mock up was beneficial to our group as it inspired us with different ideas for our initial digipak draft.

Digipak – Mock Up – Drawn

Planning:

As part of the process of creating our digipak we created a rough draft of our ideas of the digipak before we actually started shooting. The electronic genre is fairly different compared to more mainstream genres such as pop or rock in regards to album artwork. There are a plethora of electronic albums which have artwork that does not actually include any conventional photos. The ideas presented in our plan for our digipak mainly consists of images that would be generated artificially in Adobe Photoshop. So for our actual digipak, we would actually need to take photographs for 1 out of the 5 main segments.

Illustrated plan:

Overview:

I felt this planning document was worthwhile as it kept us on track when we were producing the digipak. The planning document was also useful as it inspired us with other similar ideas that we will incorporate into our final digipak. I believe that we have a strong initial design idea, the overall aim for our group is to produce a lively and attractive digipak. One aspect that was challenging as a group was deciding on how the titles should be positioned on the front cover, we eventually agreed to have the name of the album in the top left and the name of our group in the bottom right.

Digipak Mood-board

Task:

Whilst we were editing our music video we were tasked with producing a digipak for our group. My group and I undertook some research into album artwork for the electronic genre. We created a mood-board with several exemplars of albums with aspects of the artwork that is conventional to the electronic genre. We are also seeking to emulate some of these albums in ways such as the use of colours.

Mood-board:

Click the image below to view our mood-board.

Evaluation:

The mood-board certainly did assist us in creating our digipak. The mood-board us provided a good basis of ideas and potential images to work with. The mood-board was also useful in helping the group to become more familiar with some of the conventions of a digipak for the electronic genre. Some key conventions of a digipak of the electronic genre would be bright neon colours, computer generated images and fonts with a very digital appearance.

Additional planning document – Narrative shot list

Narrative Shot List:

We created a narrative shot list so that we were more prepared for our shoot day. The shot list details what shots we are planning on using during our day of shooting.

Shot List:

Narrative Shot List

Overview:

Overall I feel that the shot list was beneficial to my group and I. The shot list was useful as it kept our group on track so we would keep consistent in our thinking and filming. We thought of the shot list as a guideline and not a specific structure which we needed to follow precisely. We will most likely change certain aspects of the shot list to cater to new filming ideas.

Narrative Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment:

Before we could proceed with filming we had to complete a risk assessment of our shoot. In the risk assessment we had to detail some of the potential dangers associated with our shoot. Our shoot was in the middle of a football field, so there were not many risks.

The image below is our Risk assessment sheet.

12351021_868834333232675_2106362513_n

Analysis:

The overall amount of risk associated with the filming of the narrative of our music video is very low as we will be filming in a relatively safe environment (football pitch). In our case, a risk assessment was not entirely necessary, then again I do understand the importance and the relevance of a risk assessment to our shoot.

Narrative Production Meeting Agenda

Production Meeting Agenda:

As part of the planning process for our music video we were tasked with producing a production meeting agenda for both the narrative and performance of our music video. Below is our narrative production meeting agenda.

PMA Narrative

Overview:

Overall the narrative production meeting agenda was useful to my group and I. The narrative production meeting agenda is also useful as it illustrates clearly the details of our narrative so we could show the PMA to people involved in our video but not part of our group, such as James Browning who assisted us with certain shots.
