Design Skills 1

Whilst using Premiere pro we learnt how to use different video effects to alter how our video looks, from cool effects to amazing traditions to bring to life our music video and keep the audience engaged at all times.

This tool allowed us to zoom in or out on any clip to focus on a certain point in the clip, so we could change the scale and position of each clip.  This helped us because when we wanted our performer off centre it meant we could move them to the side of the clip.

This last feature helped us change the colour of the screen to give off a better look for the video, this will also help to capture the audience’s attention and we can get some cool clips just by editing and changing the colour of certain clips to keep our music video interesting.

The specific impacts on the star image and genre is that these tools will capture what we want as a group, for example colour effects will help to capture the good memories of summer.  These tools help to get across the stars image, these skills specifically effect the video by giving the narrative more of an interesting look instead of plain boring clips.

Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

This 30 second clip is our first draft of our music video.  We were still getting used to all the tools in Premiere pro and our performer hadn’t done much filming before so was a bit shy compared to our new and improved clips where our performers were a lot more confident and also new the lyrics to the song ‘These Days’ a lot better.  The costume on our second clips are a lot better and brighter which suits our theme and genre of summer vibes.

To improve we need to:

  • Improve transitions
  • Edit clips better
  • Film more clips
  • Sort out more costumes (To create more interest for the audience)
  • More close up shots
  • Different locations, something grungy
  • MES

For MES we need to improve on:

  • Costume (more costumes)
  • Camera angles (variety of shots)
  • Hand gestures and movements to keep the video active

Shoot 1 Reflection (Performance)

Our first shoot went quite well, however we only filmed close up shots of the performer which isn’t that bad because we want a lot of close ups in our music video.  Every now and again our performer forgot some of the lyrics but overall new basically every word to our song ‘These Days’.  I feel that we affectively shared roles as a group and came up with lots of different ideas to make the video the best it can be.

Looking back at the footage we recorded, we ended up with a very limited amount of shots from different angles, so there wasn’t much variety when it came to editing our clips together. We also had only one of our performers available for our first shoot, so only the male voice of our song was able to be lip synced. We also did not have a variety of different outfits for our performer to wear, the costuming wasn’t very well organised resulting in the only having one outfit for the entirety of the shoot. However, all these things have been taken into consideration and will be fixed/changed for our next performance shoot.

What Went Well:

  • Performance
  • Organisation

Improvements:

  • More costumes (Bathers at the beach as well as jumpers in the studio)
  • Wider variety of shots/more filming options (To ensure we can capture the best possible angles to make our video look as fun as possible, film in other locations as the studio limits our creativity)
  • Make sure the other performer is available

Production Meeting for Shoot 1 (Performance)

Below is our Production Meeting Agenda. A production meeting agenda is important as it helps to keep everyone on track on what they need to bring and to be organised prior to the shoot happening. By using a production meeting agenda it will help to convey the star image that we are trying to get across to the target audience. It is critical that we do not forget anything as we have to appeal to our target audience.

Star Image – The Performer

This will help me because the star image is important in the music video because it helps to convey their thoughts, feelings and emotions during the music video.  The main purpose of a music video is to promote the star this happens so that you are able to sell their music and ultimately make money. This will be important when shooting our music video, as it will give the audience an understand as to what the styling and Mise en scene is of the music video. Not only will this convey a message to our target audience, it will also help to highlight the narrative throughout the music video.

Dyer mentions how a star image is made up of an artist appearing extraordinary, however, also ordinary and relatable to the audience.  This will give us as the audience a brief idea and some thoughts about them as a person.  We will also be able to understand what Mise en scene we should be considering

I created a mood board of features associated with my artist which will portray the star image of our artists. Our aim is for  them to come across as friendly, playful with a sense of adventure and freedom as we want them to welcome an audience. We will try to make them stand out from a crowd, with subtle features
