Hand drawn mock up

On these designs, it says what our colour pallet is and where our images and text will be placed.  We have also annotated the designs with the conventional technical elements such as:

  • Barcode
  • Title
  • Image
  • Artist
  • Song title

It is also important for our artists’ star image to be unique and different to other artists of the genre to keep the audience and engaged with the album cover and to make them want to purchase it.

For our Digipack, we want it to be bright and colourful, this is very conventional to our genre as it will stand out to the audience, more so than any other digi pack in our genre (pop).  We will include colours such as green, blue, purple & pink as not only do they work well together but they are also bright:

Branding Moodboard

To prepare for our digipack, we made a moodboard full of pop artists, album covers and fonts used typically in pop album covers.  This will give us inspiration on what we should use for our digipack.  Our brand image will be developed by the ideas we have researched and a repertoire of elements will be involved in oreder to make the digipack conventional.

Digipak Conventions Analysis

This is the first time which I have annotated and analysed the different conventions within a digipak. I used Clean Bandit’s album ‘What is love?’ as they are a similar artists to Rudimental. This allowed me to pick out different things within the images that conveyed different meanings in what the artist wanted to portray. Now that I know what is needs to be include within a digipak such as barcode, copyright information and information of the contents of the album- I will be able to use my knowledge of the different conventions and include them when creating mine. The album cover is quirky and playful which infers that the artists are off beat.

Some of the technical conventions of any digipak, not specific to a genre,  include:

  • Imagery
  • Album title
  • Name of the star or band
  • Spine
  • Copyright information
  • Barcode
  • Track names

Our Mission Statement – The Package Brand

We created a presentation of things we want to include and take into consideration when creating our digipak. We analysed our audience, created a mission statement, researched our different competition, our call to action and established the unique selling point. We need to be able to know as much information about our audience as we need to make it relatable and need to promote our brand with the use of integrated advertising.

Music Video Draft 3

To improve:

  • Need to fill in all the blank spaces
  • Include some more effects, make the video different but the same to other pop music videos.

We have asked for comments and feedback on our draft 3 and this is what we got:

We have:

  • Removed studio clips
  • Included summer clips
  • Added effects

Teacher Feedback – screen castify

  • Add transitions to make the clips look less static
  • scale & position clips.
  • Shots are too long so need to make them shorter
  • fill in gaps
  • focus on clips of Noah at the lighthouse and on the steps but need to make him bigger
  • edit to the beat to create more energy
  • correct the clips of Laura and make clips more stylized.
  • get rid of studio shots
  • narrative (pace of edit)
  • close ups- sense on intimacy
  • create more chaotic

The reason we are missing footage is due to us not having enough time to edit. We had problems at the beginning which we have slowly overcome however it has resulted in us being further behind then we need to be.

Specsavers Feedback

People who are in the media industry came and looked at our music video to give us some tips and feedback from improvement. When they came in we did not have many clips in our video as we had just finished our most recent shoot and spending our time uploading them onto premier pro. We showed them as much as we had and this is what they said:

  • add more transitions to make the clips flow more
  • reposition clips to change up the dynamics
  • record more footage as we don’t have as many as we should and if we get more then we can create more effect.
  • We were shown how to add an adjustment layer to some our clips to colour correct as some of the video we got were quite dull, so by doing this we were able to brighten them up.
  • We were also taught how to make the shadows/white/darks corrolate with eachother so the colour could be equal.

By learning these tips and tricks we will be able to expand our knowledge on editing to make our music video better.

Music Video Draft 2 (Includes shoot 2 footage )

This is our Draft 2 video. It only includes some of our performance and but we still need to include the narrative clips. We are not close to finishing the editing but have all the clips to include so just need to piece them all together. We have had trouble when uploading the clips onto Premier Pro so spent some time figuring out how to solve it, hence the reason we are behind in the editing. Our shoot was successful and the planning which we completed made it easy for us to be able to manage what we needed and how we were going to carry everything out. We have a lot of work to do to make to create a successful piece which will demonstrate our potential but for draft 2 we are happy with the direction it is heading.

Targets for improvement

  • keep track of editing
  • fill in the gaps with clips.
  • add filters/transitions to change the look of the video
  • if we have a chance to- would be nice to add in extra clips of our female performer lip syncing.

Shoot 2 Reflection (Narrative)

On Shoot 2, we filmed our performance clips as we had already completed the narrative clips before this. We went to Lighthouse and into Town to shoot our lip syncing videos. We took both of our performers and we were able to complete all of the videos needed, with a variety of shots. This has set us up to be able to edit our video and have clips for each verse/chorus of the song. However, we may need to still film some more clips with our female performer as we want to be able to portray two different aspects of their lives and this is a way in which we can do this.
